February auto sales falls 30%

Thailand’s sales of auto vehicles dropped 30.26 percent from a year ago to 66,446 units in the first two months of 2009, according to data released by Toyota’s Thailand unit.

The auto sales for February was 34,361 units, down 30.7 percent from the same month a year ago and the ninth straight months slump for the auto industry, due to consumers’ ceaseless concern over the economic recession.

In the overall market, Toyota saw its sales drop 28 percent; Isuzu, 30.64 percent; Honda, 19.31 percent; Nissan, 39 percent; and Mitsubishi, the country’s fifth largest auto maker, experienced the sharpest drop in sales, 49.88 per cent from a year earlier.
