GM to assemble new Chevvy Cruze in Thailand
General Motor Thailand is planning to stop the production of its current flagship passenger car Chevrolet Optra to utilize the plant facility for the new Chevrolet Cruze, according to people familiar with the matter.
A news source said the automaker is in the process of preparing its production line for the new model, which scheduled to hit Thailand road next year.
“We have informed our suppliers and die makers details of the model. The new car will be assembled at GM plant in Rayong,” the people involved with the matter said.
He said the new Chevrolet Cruze will come in two versions: the petrol version and diesel version with engine displacement ranging from 1.6 liter, 1.8 liter, and 2.0 liter and the option of six-speed manual transmission and five-speed automatic transmission.
“Chevrolet has received very well response in the Asia-Pacific with 15 percent market share for the region,” said John Thomson, GM’s director of Sales and Services for Asia-Pacific.
