OCPB sets to control online real estate advertisement

The Office of Consumer Protection Board is planning to control online advertisement, especially in the real estate industry after receiving many consumer complaints of developer’s overly ad campaigns.

The OCPB said it will submit law proposal to the Consumer Protection Commission consideration over the measures that will allow it to control real estate advertisement on the internet.

OCPB Secretary Niroth Charoenprakob said that the internet media has been reaching into much larger consumer base and online advertisement has been increasing in popularity in the most visited web sites.

To prevent consumers from being exploited by overly advertised developers, the OCPB said it needs to have law enforcing as a controlling instrument.

Mr. Niroth said, according to old media regulations, the real estate developer will have to declare name of rights owner over the developing land, the project information and completion schedule.

“Since the online content is very versatile, consumer should keep in mind to collect solid evidence just in case they’re falling into overly online advertisement trap,” he said.
