Online markets grow more than 50% in 2009
The online marketplace in Thailand has seen grow more than 50 percent in 2009, boosted by increasing internet users and improved service operations.
The market is expected to continue to grow in 2010, pushed by the increasing popularity in WIFI-enabled smartphones and shift in demographic of internet users, according to the country’s leading internet broadband provider True corp.
True said its Weloveshopping.com web site has attracted more than 160,000 visitors a day this year, compared with an average of 80,000 a day in 2008 and 50,000 a day in 2007.
The company’s transaction value through its online payment service represents a 20 percent of the group total volume, and rose to 2.5 billion baht in 2009 from last year 1.5 billion baht.
The e-commerce website has emerged to more than 198 thousand stores from 120,000 last year with women clothes and cosmetics listed as best-selling products.
True said Thailand’s e-commerce market is expected to grow by 30 percent in 2009 from 76 billion baht in 2008, and by 50 percent in 2010 and the transaction would surpass a two million mark in volume.
