Diesel price subsidy gets government approval

The Thai government on Tuesday approved a bill for fuel subsidy on diesel to be effective on Friday, resulting to the pump prices on diesel to go down by 2 baht per liter on the day.

The decision was taken by the cabinet following the National Energy Policy Committee agreed on Monday to cut state oil levy on the diesel to keep retail prices bellow 30 baht a litter as a proposed by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to help business sector in the long run.

Energy Minister Wannarat Charnnukul said fuel subsidy would be extended to cooking gas (liquefied petroleum gas, or LPG) and natural gas for vehicles (NGV; also called compressed natural gas, or CNG) to help ease the people’s costs of living.
