Export climbed for 4 consecutive months in February
Thailand’s export grows for four consecutive months to 14.4 billion baht in February, helped by the global economic recovery and the governments’ stimulus packages of the trading partner countries, according to data released by Commerce Minister Porntiva Nakasai.
The February export jumped 23.15 percent from the same period a year ago.
The country’s trade surplus for the month was 440 million dollars from 14.404 billion dollar in exports and 13.964 billion dollars in imports.
However, the imports grow at a higher rate of 71.2 percent from the same month a year ago.
Ms. Porntiva commented that the governments’ stimulus packages in the global market had accelerated consumer’s confidence in spending and the shipments.
“We are not only lucky,” she told reporters at the news conference, “but we are also working hard to make it happened.”
She said the government will take all the necessary measures to push the country’s export to a target of 14.0 percent growth comparing to the last year or at 170 billion dollars in value.
Of 23.15 percent growth, the export in agricultural products skyrocketed to 38.4 percent growth while the industrial products jumped 15.2 percent.
Among them, 11.9 percent accounted for the exports to the new entered markets.
Ms. Porntiva added that the ministry’s urgent agenda now is to do more the public relations to get the trading partner countries understand Thailand’s current situations.
