3 markets agree on single standard

The Stock Exchange of Thailand, the Bursa Malaysia and the Singapore Stock Exchange have reached agreement to use single standard in cross-country stock trading, the Securities and Exchange Commission’s general secretary Thirachai Phuvanatnaranubala said.

Mr. Thirachai said the three markets are all benefited from the scheme in fund raising with reduced costs, accelerated processes, as well as in lifting the local markets visibility to a higher level.

He said the scheme aims to network all the stock markets in Southeast Asia region into single market.

Tan Sri Zarinah Anwar, Chairman of the Securities Commission Malaysia noted that: “The implementation is a step forwards to more efficient environment to access to capital markets across the ASEAN.”

Shane Tregillis, Deputy Managing Director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore, said he believed that the ASEAN market will be able to become a single network by 2015.
