Two thousand people from all societies and ethnics gathered at Sanam Luang Royal ceremonial ground in the evening to participate the candle-lit ceremony in honor of Queen Sirikt on occasion of her birth day anniversary.

The formality procedure, started concurrently nationwide, presided by Thai premier Gen. Surayud Chulanont and broadcasted live on every TV and radio channel.

Earlier through the day, various activities have been formerly held by local and provincial officials.

In the morning, high-ranking provincial officials led by governors conducted merit making activities such as free the birds and animals to pay tribute to the queen.

Unlike international, Thailand’s monarch’s birthdays are also marked as national Father and Mother’s Day. Families are urged to make merits to pay tribute to their parents as well.
