Why the middle class supports PAD

Mr. Somchai has just received the email late in May. It is an irregular email he received so far. The mail has been forwarded from an ex-colleague he lost contacts with in the recent years. Alongside with him, there was a long list of mail recipients.

Mr. Somchai almost ignored it, but the title caught his interest. He spent quite a minute weighting whether he would believe it.

The mail was written by someone who tries to convince people to believe that Mr. Samak administration is going to revise the constitution in favor of Mr. Thaksin.

Mr. Thaksin is forced in a defense position with graft charge. He has been accused of abused of power during his tenure as the prime minister.

The content message encourages as many Thai people who love democracy and the monarch to go join the PAD rally and stop the revision of the constitution.

Mr. Somchai was confused. As an office worker, he heard co-workers chat everyday about Mr. Thaksin corruption. They said albeit the economy will be recovered with Mr. Thaksin return, the country will go from bad to worst with even more corruptions, because people are brainwashed to abandon the good social morale and shift focus to materially selfishness.

The email is quite right. Mr. Thaksin has been accused of taxes avoiding. The case will be a life-long story. Weighting the situation, he decided to go stalking at the PAD rally.

With his peer and age, Mr. Somchai managed to get himself closed to one of the PAD influential speakers.

He told him that the PAD allies have a thousand boxes of evident document to explain what Mr. Thaksin had done the bad things during his tenure in the office.

As a common people, they don’t have the power to wash away Mr. Thaksin’s nominee government. The only way is borrowing the power of the military.

Talking with him, Mr. Somchai’s doubt was crystal cleared. He then became a supporter of the rally.

Mr. Somchai thought he would pass the message to as many people as he can.
He happened to meet with one of his closest friend who gave him another thought, Mr. Chatri.

Mr. Chatri is the exporter of prawn who dislikes the rally. He told Mr. Somchai that the EU members and the U.S. will stop importing goods from Thailand if the coup were happening again.

He said he would lose business and the bank will no more issue him a loan.

Mr. Chatri also tried to convince Mr. Somchai to agree with him why the poor should support Mr. Thaksin, because he is the man that thinks differently and does what he thinks.

Mr. Chatri said there isn’t the former government takes care of the poor like Mr. Thaksin did. The current government policy is only Mr. Thaksin copycat.

Mr. Somchai argued that everybody knows that Mr. Thaksin is corrupted except for the poor.

As a more educated people, he insisted he would stand on his stance and not take side with them.

Mr. Somchai is proud of his explanation. The meeting ended with an agreement that the either parties would go on their own ways.

To win the challenge, Mr. Somchai decided to take the opportunity to join the rally as much as he can.
